ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs) are predominantly nuclear RNA-binding proteins that form complexes with RNA polymerase II transcripts. These proteins function in a variety of cellular activities, ranging from transcription and pre-mRNA processing in the nucleus to cytoplasmic mRNA translation and turnover (1). hnRNP C2 is one of the most abundant proteins in the nucleus, and shown to have roles in cellular differentiation and proliferation (2). A novel nuclear export is activated by the ROCK signaling pathway to exclude hnRNP C2 from the nucleus, by which the compartmentalization of specific hnRNP components is disturbed in apoptotic cells (3). Overexpression of hnRNP C2 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues has been reported in 70 HCC samples, suggesting its potential as a protein tumor marker (4).
