death, is a pro-apoptotic protein belonging to the BH3-only group of Bcl-2 family members (1). Bim promotes apoptosis by binding to a n d inhibiting the activity of anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 family members, inducing the release of cytochrome c from mitochondria (2). Bim is sequestered in an inactive conf o r mation through binding to the microtubule-associated dynein mot o r complex. Certain apoptotic stimuli release Bim from microtubules, allowing inhibit o r y binding to anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 family members a n d subsequent iniation of apoptosis (3,4).
